2nd October is Grandparents Day in the UK
"Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do. Grandparents sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children." Alex Haley
A day to be grateful to all grandparents that we couldn’t manage without, whether it is a thank you for helping us with childcare or many of life’s other experiences that we simply couldn’t have managed without them. Children have special relationships with their grandparents in many cases and this should be promoted and welcomed as it helps children to build up their relationship skills which will benefit them in later life.

10th October is Thanksgiving in Canada
Thanksgiving usually makes us think of America rather than Canada but they celebrate by giving thanks for their good fortunes on this occasion which comes around once a year. Canadians plan to get together at this time for a family meal with Turkey and potatoes. Click the link for a scarecrow craft activity
26th October is the Hindu festival of Diwali
The date of the Diwali celebration changes each year as the day depends on the moon’s position. This year Diwali takes place on Wednesday 26th October, giving you plenty of time to do some further research and plan a Diwali day for your setting.
Diwali day 2011 takes places on the amavasya (no moon day)
