January 2012 Play type of the month: Social Play
The CACHE Level 3 Award in Induction to Playwork, Certificate in Playwork and Diploma in playwork, QCF (Qualifications Credit Framework) qualifications recognise the 16 play types as devised in ‘A playworker’s Taxonomy of Play Types’ by Bob Hughes.
What is Social Play?
Social play is play during which the rules and criteria for social engagement with peers and adults is discovered by interacting, exploring and manipulating as they play.
Any social or interactive engagement displayed during play where there is an expectation on all those involved that they will follow the rules or procedures, i.e. during co-operative games, general conversations or just creating play together;
