Aim
To explore an employer’s rights and responsibilities in order to successfully manage fairly and without bias, increasing your understanding of a range of management tools and techniques .
Objectives
• To explore Equality and Diversity in the workplace in order to:
• Understand an individual’s rights.
• Improve knowledge of equality legislation and protect yourself from legal claims.
• Be able to support an employee whose rights have been breached and promote positive behaviour within the workplace.
• To identify a range of management tools and documentation in order to manage fairly and within the law.
• To explore examples of best practice in a range of management tools and decision making.
Learning Outcomes
1. Understand what Equality and Diversity is and how it impacts on individuals, their employees as well as other external parties.
2. Increase knowledge of Equality and Diversity legislation and how this will impact on making management decisions.
3. Discover what factors can have an influence on an individual’s attitudes and beliefs and how these can cause issues within the workplace.
4. Explore how to manage fairly and without bias.
5. Explore bullying and harassment, why it happens, the different stages of bullying and how to manage it.
6. Identify how to carry out Recruitment and Selection fairly and legally.
7. Understand how employment documentation can be used effectively to maximise relationships between managers and staff. This will include looking at policies and procedures and contracts.
8. Explore the appraisal process, looking at best practice, how to carry out an appraisal and how to prepare employees in order to motivate and identify development needs.
9. Know how to carry out a training needs analysis as well as understanding mandatory training requirements.
