Chinese New Year 2011

What is Chinese New Year?

The Spring Festival (in England we commonly refer to this fesitval as Chinese New Year) which is the oldest and most important festival of the Chinese calendar.  It is celebrated the world over by millions of Chinese people.  It is a celebration of the Earth coming back to life as planting of crops begins.  The date of the festival varies each year although it takes place during the end of January or the beginning of February.

 

 

This year it falls on 3rd February and this year is of the Rabbit.  It is said that the animal of the year that you are born in you will share some characteristics with you.

What is Chinese New Year?

On New Year's Eve the Chinese light up their houses and have a family dinner. Special foods are served. Most people stay up late and set off fireworks to scare away evil spirits.
